Erica Hidalgo is the director of elementary programs with Los Lunas Schools in New Mexico. She is passionate about the role of a school principal in organizational transformation and the power of the classroom teacher to impact a child’s life.
Erica designs and implements all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and professional development for all elementary schools in her district. She also coordinates the academic coach and new-teacher support programs.
Prior to her time with Los Lunas Schools, Erica served as the director of elementary programs for Albuquerque Public Schools and its 91 elementary schools. She was also the principal of Alamosa Elementary School and Painted Sky Elementary School.
As a principal, Erica worked side by side with teachers and support staff to comprehend standards, focus on quality Tier 1 instruction, and integrate data-driven decision-making to inform best practices in each classroom. Under her leadership, Alamosa Elementary and Painted Sky Elementary were honored for their exemplary dual-language programs.
Erica’s teaching career includes positions at two districts in North Texas, a charter school in New Mexico, and a yearlong role establishing an elementary school in Brazil. While Erica’s early career focused on secondary mathematics, she now focuses on instructional leadership, teacher quality, early literacy, and early numeracy.
Erica earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Woman’s University, and her master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of New Mexico.
