Kari Roan

Dr. Kari Roan began teaching in 2002, serving as a 6th-grade English teacher and dance team director. Throughout her tenure in her current district, Dr. Roan has held a variety of roles. She founded the district's first middle school drill team program, became the director of the district’s original high school, taught 7th-grade English, served as the dean of instruction, worked as the secondary English curriculum coordinator, and was a high school assistant principal. She currently serves as a middle school principal.

Additionally, Dr. Roan has experience in the private sector as a writing consultant to area school districts, a curriculum writer, and a specialist in school improvement and school turnaround efforts. She earned an undergraduate degree in English education from Southern Methodist University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University.

Coming from a long line of educators—including teachers, principals, professors, and librarians—Dr. Roan takes great pride in her heritage. This background constantly reminds her of the commitment educators make. She considers ensuring high levels of learning for all students a moral imperative and takes great joy in creating conditions that allow educators to achieve this goal.
