In this episode

In this episode we talk to a dream team of school leaders who worked together to make amazing things happen in a troubled district in Clute, Texas. Brazosport Independent School District is located about 50 miles south of Houston on the gulf coast. It serves eight different municipalities and students who come from diverse experiences and backgrounds—from high poverty to highly affluent. As award-winning superintendent Danny Massey puts it, “Our school district really brings all of our communities together.”

That’s why his first priority as superintendent several years ago was to transform BISD from a low-performing district to one in which students learn at high levels and where staff work together in high-performing teams districtwide. How did he accomplish this? By working with long-time colleague, friend, and fellow believer in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work®, Clara Sale-Davis. Listen as Clara and Danny share their inspiring success story and reveal the power of working in “unity of purpose.”

Tune in to learn:

  • How Danny and Clara came to believe in PLC at Work as the best process for ensuring learning for all
  • The importance of the school board in the work of a PLC
  • The steps they took, first at the campus level and later districtwide, to implement PLC
  • How they ultimately became a Model PLC at Work® district
  • Why they remain focused on staff and student wellness as core to their mission of improving children’s lives
  • Advice for applying to become a Model PLC at Work® school or district
