Artia Shorter

Artia Shorter is a dedicated assistant principal at a Title I elementary school in Georgia. With extensive experience working with students living in poverty in Title I schools, Artia is passionate about guiding educators through the professional learning community (PLC) process and building shared knowledge amongst professional learning teams to increase the cognitive rigor of students.

Artia's classroom experience ranges from kindergarten through fifth grade, and as a previous literacy teacher, she helped her former school to become a Model PLC at Work® school. She specializes in implementing high levels of instructional practices that support and promote high levels of literacy within the five reading pillars. In addition, Artia has extensive experience collaborating with teacher teams to use student data to drive instruction that fosters continuous improvement in a positive learning environment where students can continue to grow and achieve high-levels of success.

Artia provides hands-on coaching and engaging personalized professional learning to support and motivate educators to implement effective teaching strategies. Her expertise and passion for education are evident in her commitment to improving learning outcomes for students living in poverty.

Artia received a bachelor's degree in early childhood and special education from Fort Valley State University, a master's degree in early childhood and special education from Fort Valley State University, and a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Piedmont University. Her dedication and hard work were recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year at Lindsey Elementary School in 2018.
