Aspasia Angelou

Dr. Angelou currently serves the community in Wittmann, Arizona, as superintendent and the community of Morristown, Arizona, as superintendent. Dr. Angelou was named Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year in 2017 for the academic gains made by her students during her tenure in Oklahoma City.

Aspasia Angelou

Aspasia Angelou is the daughter of immigrant parents and a native of Seattle, Washington, where she graduated from the University of Washington. She moved to Texas as an educator and teacher trainer in Advanced Placement and then Oklahoma as a school administrator for eight years. Dr. Angelou served the students, teachers, and community of Tulsa Public Schools as director of high school design in 2019, leading four schools through a redesign project. She is passionate about creating equitable learning environments, opportunities, and outcomes for all students. Her entire career has been committed to serving in Title I urban schools. She was named Oklahoma High School Principal of the Year in 2017 for the academic gains made by her students during her tenure in Oklahoma City. Despite challenges, they made great gains and are recognized as a Model Professional Learning Community by Solution Tree.

Dr. Angelou was awarded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Scholarship to attend the 2017 Women Leading Education International conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2018, Dr. Angelou had the opportunity to visit innovative schools in China and collaborate with the Ministry of Education to increase STEM programming.

Dr. Angelou received her doctoral degree in educational administration and leadership from Texas A&M University at Commerce, her master’s degree in educational administration from Texas Woman’s University, and holds her superintendent’s certification through the University of Oklahoma. Additionally, Dr. Angelou completed a fourteen-month certification with the National Institute of School Leadership (NISL) in Washington, DC, and trains school administrators on effective instructional and operational leadership. Dr. Angelou is proud to serve the community in Wittmann, Arizona, as superintendent of Nadaburg Unified School District No. 81 and the community of Morristown, Arizona, as the superintendent of Morristown Elementary School District No. 75.
