Bo Ryan

Bo Ryan is the principal of the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School in Connecticut. He is passionate about building and sustaining professional learning communities, and has led two different schools to Model PLC certification.

Bo has spent the past 25 years working in education, serving as a teacher, a coach, and a principal. His work with PLCs includes leading Woodside Intermediate School to Model PLC status in 2012 and leading the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Middle School to Model PLC status in 2016, just four years after it opened. Bo advocated for student success and conducted more than 1,000 home visits at each school.

Bo started his teaching career at John C. Clark Elementary School in Hartford, Connecticut, where he was recognized as the city’s Teacher and Educator of the Year. During his time there, Bo created various morning and after-school programs for hundreds of students. Bo also instructed a class on PLCs as an adjunct professor, publishing the article “Learning by Doing: The Arts Middle Way” in AllThingsPLC Magazine.

Bo earned undergraduate degrees from Western Connecticut State University, a master’s degree from Syracuse University, and his sixth-year degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
