Charles Farmer, PhD, has almost 30 years of experience in education and currently serves as a middle school principal. He has held a variety of roles from teacher and athletics coach to assistant superintendent. As a middle and high school principal, Dr. Farmer worked to create collaborative cultures by incorporating the PLC process. He has long believed that a clear and practical road map—where teachers identify essential standards, commonly assess mastery of learning, discuss assessment data together, and provide student interventions/enrichment and other academic supports—is paramount to successful learning.
The middle school that Dr. Farmer led to success was recognized as an “A” school by the Tennessee Department of Education during the inaugural year of school letter grades. Additionally, they have been a level 5 in Composite Growth two times during his tenure, the only times in the school’s history. Last year, they attained a level 5 in Literacy and Numeracy Combined Growth—and Numeracy Growth—for the first time.
Dr. Farmer holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary social science education from Auburn University. He obtained his master’s degree in educational leadership from Florida State University, and he earned a PhD in curriculum and teaching from Auburn University.
