Cheyana Leiva is a transformational leader who understands the challenges schools are facing and the strategies necessary to develop a high-performing professional learning community (PLC).
Currently a principal in Phoenix, Arizona, Cheyana led her high-poverty school from a C rating to an A rating in three years. Over this time, the school has been awarded as an A+ School of Excellence, designated a Model PLC, and named an Arizona Title One Exemplary Program. Cheyana was also awarded 2018 Principal of the Year by her school district.
Previously, Cheyana taught kindergarten through middle school and led multiple campuses as an assistant principal and principal. During her time as a mathematics teacher, she took on the challenge of uniting singletons throughout her district, creating several multischool collaborative teams. More than 14 schools and 30 teachers throughout the district participated.
Cheyana has presented for the Arizona School Administrators Association, as well as to schools throughout Arizona.
Cheyana earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University.
