Cindy Sholtys-Cromwell

Cindy Sholtys-Cromwell has spent the last 23 years as an administrator with the Kelso School District in Kelso, Washington. Cindy served as assistant principal at Coweeman Middle School (grades 6–8) for seven years and as principal of Butler Acres Elementary (K–5) for 13 years. She has taught at the high school level and was the principal of Loowit Alternative High School as well. She is currently the principal of Kelso Virtual Academy (K–12) along with the Kelso GED Program. She was recognized as the 2021 National Digital Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Cindy has served on the Association of Washington State Principals (AWSP) Communication Advisory Committee and presented at the AWSP state conference on the topics of “Commitment to Support the Whole Teacher” and “Communication Impacts.” She was featured in the Communication and the Principalship podcast and has been featured in a “Fast 5” video series of best practices. She’s written numerous articles for state and national publications and was a presenter at both NASSP and NAESP national conferences around the topics of educator self-care and school celebrations.

Cindy had the privilege of collaborating with Jennifer Abrams—one of “21 Women All K–12 Educators Need to Know” by Education Week—on the creation of “Starting the Year Right: An Orientation Checklist for New Admin and New Teachers.”

She earned her associate’s degree from Yakima Valley Community College, and she holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and a master’s degree in education from Heritage University.
