Dustin Hunt

Dustin Hunt is the superintendent of RE-1 Valley School District in Sterling, Colorado. He previously served as superintendent in Hot Springs County School District #1 in Thermopolis, Wyoming, where he implemented the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work® process at all levels of the district, from early childhood to the boardroom, for more than a decade. Dustin began the PLC journey while serving as principal of Hot Springs County High School.

During his leadership in Thermopolis, Hot Springs County High School and Thermopolis Middle School became Model PLC at Work® Schools and consistently produced strong student learning results. Thermopolis Middle School was a finalist for the prestigious DuFour Award in 2018 and 2019. In 2024, Thermopolis Middle School was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, followed by Ralph Witters Elementary receiving the same distinction in 2025. In 2020, Dustin was named Wyoming Superintendent of the Year.

Now in Sterling, Dustin brings the same collaborative spirit to his new role, working alongside educators and board members to strengthen team-based practices and ensure high levels of learning for all students.

Dustin is a member of the Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) and the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). He earned a bachelor’s degree in education with endorsements in secondary history and K–12 health and physical education and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Canyon University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Educational Leadership at the University of Northern Colorado.
