Heather Anderson's career spans K-12 and is varied and diverse. Not only is Heather a published author but she has taught in a variety of roles. She spent 10 years working at the elementary level in several different positions. She taught Kindergarten through fifth grade as a classroom teacher, with many of those years in a bilingual classroom. While working at the elementary level, she earned her math specialist certification and worked as a beginning teacher support and assessment (BTSA) provider supporting new teachers. Her positions also included working as a staff developer and peer coach. In that role, she was responsible for all staff development regarding literacy, math, and second language acquisition.

The second half of her career consisted of teaching middle school and high school. She has spent the last 10 years working predominantly as a high school English teacher in grades 9-12. At the high school level she taught upper division Spanish, a Mental Health Matters course, and geometry.

Currently, Heather works for the state of Wisconsin as a literacy advisor.

Her areas of expertise are in the gradual release of responsibility, close reading (K-12), accelerating learning for English learners, collaborative learning, differentiated instruction, summative and formative assessments, academic vocabulary acquisition, inclusion, and incorporating literacy into all content areas.
