Jennifer Throndsen

Jennifer Throndsen, PhD, is an education advisor and former director of teaching and learning for the Utah State Board of Education. With over 20 years of experience, she has served as a teacher, district office specialist, instructional coach, and state literacy coordinator.

Jennifer Throndsen, PhD, is an education advisor supporting schools, districts, and state departments across the United States. She is the former director of teaching and learning for the Utah State Board of Education, where she led a team of 100 staff members supporting high-quality instruction for preK–12 education. Dr. Throndsen has been an educator for over 20 years, serving as a teacher, district office specialist, instructional coach, and a state literacy coordinator. She’s also coordinated with educator preparation programs and taught over 10 undergraduate and graduate courses on curriculum and instruction.

Dr. Throndsen was recognized as a champion by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading for her efforts to advance literacy proficiency. Her passion for supporting educators in meeting the needs of all learners, especially those historically underserved, has had a significant impact on student learning outcomes at the classroom and system levels.

She has presented across the United States and internationally on topics ranging from personalized, competency-based learning to elementary mathematics. She has also published articles in multiple academic journals and has been a guest speaker on podcasts such as Science of Reading: The Podcast.

Dr. Throndsen earned her bachelor’s degree from Westminster University, a master’s degree from Southern Utah University, an administrative certificate from University of Alaska Anchorage, and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Utah State University. She holds endorsements in reading, elementary mathematics, English as a second language, and gifted and talented.
