Mary Mazariegos
Mary Mazariegos has worked in a variety of roles in education for the past 17 years. After beginning as a teacher’s assistant in elementary classrooms, she went on to teach high school English, English as a second language, and other reading and literacy courses. She has also held roles such as instructional coach, ELL facilitator, and secondary English curriculum coordinator for Oklahoma City Public Schools and worked as an assistant principal and then the head principal in an Oklahoma City charter school. She was integral in the work at U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, helping the formerly lowest-performing school in the state of Oklahoma become a B+ in just two years.
Mary is known for her infectious laugh and serious passion for learners and educators. Her sense of urgency is a force to be reckoned with, and she knows with every fiber of her being that all students can learn at high levels and many students learn differently. Every student deserves to be taught how they can best learn. This need requires thinking well about school, systems, and school design.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in English, a master’s degree in bilingual/multicultural education, and a school leadership and administration certification from the University of Central Oklahoma.
