Tico Oms

Tico Oms is an international educator, recently working at International School Basel. He initially served as middle school principal, successfully leading several transformations including a new schedule, a new activity/club structure, moving grade 6 to another location, and absorbing grade 8 into their current campus. He headed the division’s response to Covid-19 and the transition to distance learning. Later, he became the high school’s principal, which he led through several innovative improvements. Since July 2023, Tico has been the middle school principal at Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon—a world leader in progressive education.

In the past, Tico also served as the middle school vice principal at International School Bangkok, and prior to that, he spent nine years at Singapore American School, serving in a variety of roles including teacher, associate director of extended learning, and the middle school deputy principal. He’s taught in Berlin, Massachusetts, and Osaka.

Tico is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and he holds a master’s degree in business from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as well as a mechanical engineering degree from Southern Methodist University. He speaks multiple languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Italian, and Thai.
