New Breakthrough Book Promotes Active Classroom Engagement, Improves Student Learning
Bloomington, Ind. (June 30, 2021)— In Five Paths of Student Engagement: Blazing the Trail to Learning and Success—published by Solution Tree—authors Dennis Shirley and Andy Hargreaves empower educators to implement practices that lead directly to students’ well-being, learning, and success.
By integrating psychological and sociological perspectives, and using examples from seven years of research, the book delves into the what, why, and how of student engagement. It reveals who and what the true enemies of student engagement are, as well as how to defeat them.
“If educators persevere, resist being led astray, and confront and overcome their enemies, then the engagement journey will take them to their promised goal of learning and well-being for all their students,” the authors explain.
The book explores five clear paths of engagement that all teachers and schools can embark upon immediately. By incorporating research-based practices in the classroom, educators can promote active engagement and build a foundation for student growth. The authors lead readers on a profound educational quest that promises to open eyes, hearts, and minds and enrich their work for years to come.
“This book not only provides clear examples of how to get students engaged in learning, it also explores the research behind the different dimensions of engagement itself,” says Pedro A. Noguera, dean of the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. “For educators and researchers who seek greater clarity on how to improve student academic outcomes and performance, this book will be an invaluable resource.”
