John D. Ewald

John D. Ewald, EdD, is a former superintendent, principal, adjunct professor, guest lecturer and teacher. He has been an administrator and teacher at the elementary, middle, high school, and college levels – master’s and doctoral cohorts. He has served the P–21 educational community throughout his 34 year career.

Through implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work®, Dr. Ewald distinguished himself as an educational leader while a superintendent and served as an impactful, highly regarded, and internationally recognized instructional leader while a principal.

Increased graduation rates; highest increase among public school districts in two states.

Recognized by the governor and state Department of Education for exemplary student achievement in a public school district.

Expanded instructional programming for students; Career and Technology Education (CTE) course and program, advanced manufacturing course and program, computer science course and program, Advanced Placement, dual enrollment, and authentic Institutes of Higher Education (IHE) partnerships.

Transitioned district to a core suite of productivity applications increasing efficiency,

Secured a substantial planning grant and facilitated collaborative efforts for Pathways to Early College High School (P-TECH).

Collaboratively and through shared governance structures worked with boards of education, state representatives, and governors to secure resources to meet district needs.

Increased student achievement for all student groups.

Received superintendent and state recognition for exemplary student achievement for all student groups.

Emphasized and supported increased academic rigor.

Advanced the use of technology across content areas.

Recognized as a public school model for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) by the International IB PYP Board of Governors.

Created business and civic partnerships emphasizing community and family engagement efforts aimed at supporting all children.

Dr. Ewald earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Maryland, College Park; a master’s degree in educational administration from Western Maryland College, Westminster; and a doctorate in educational leadership and innovation from Wilmington University in Delaware.
