Ashlee Ciccone

Ashlee Ciccone currently serves as the founding principal of Moore Innovative High School in Pinehurst, North Carolina. She served for 11 years as the principal of Pinehurst Elementary School, a Model Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work® school.

With more than 25 years of experience, she has served as a secondary teacher, instructional coach, elementary, middle, and high school-based administrator and a district curriculum specialist. Her passions include effective implementation of the PLC process, successful transition to literacy instruction based on the science of reading, and the organization of robust MTSS processes across all tiers.

Ashlee has been recognized as the first recipient of the North Carolina True Trailblazer Award for her impact on the implementation of the science of reading in a system of schools. Under Ashlee’s leadership, Pinehurst Elementary School was designated a North Carolina A-rated school and achieved the top 1% of growth of all schools in North Carolina in 2023 and 2024. Pinehurst has also been recognized as a North Carolina Promising Practices school for learner mindset, and most recently as a North Carolina Lighthouse School by the North Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Ashlee has served on the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction English Language Arts Consultative Committee. She has presented at state conferences and served as a member of a panel of literacy leaders to the North Carolina State Board of Education. Presentations have included the implementation of effective professional learning communities and the implementation of a shift to the science of reading.

She received a bachelor’s degree in communication from North Carolina State University, a teacher certification from Campbell University, and a master’s degree in school administration from North Carolina State University.
