Lauren Porosoff

Lauren Porosoff (she/her) is the founder of EMPOWER Forwards, a collaborative consultancy practice that builds learning communities that truly belong to everyone, and where everyone truly belongs. Informed by 18 years of classroom experience and evidence-based psychological science, Lauren develops tools and protocols that empower students and teachers to make school a source of meaning, vitality, and community through values-based action. Her work on improving the psychological experience of school includes instructional design, social-emotional learning, and professional development.

Lauren presents on these topics at national conferences and for regional associations of independent schools, and she consults with school leadership teams. Her books include EMPOWER Your Students: Tools to Inspire a Meaningful School Experience (Solution Tree, 2017), Two-for-One Teaching: Connecting Instruction to Student Values (Solution Tree, 2019), Teach Meaningful: Tools to Design the Curriculum at Your Core (Rowman & Littlefield, 2020), and The PD Curator: How to Design Peer-to-Peer Professional Learning That Elevates Teachers and Teaching (ASCD, 2021). Lauren's writing has also appeared in AMLE Magazine, Educational Leadership, Independent School, Kappan, Learning for Justice, and Rethinking Schools.

A lifelong learner, Lauren received a bachelor’s degree in English from Wesleyan University and a law degree from George Washington University. She lives in New York with her co-everything Jonathan Weinstein, her two spectacular children, her extremely generous parents, and a cat named Benedict.
