Joe Ianora has spent fifteen of his thirty years in education as an administrator. Joe uses his varied school experience to help transform schools into 21st-century student-centered learning facilities.

Joe Ianora has spent fifteen of his thirty years in education as an administrator. He has been both a comprehensive and continuation high school principal. Prior to that, he has held nearly every position in a school site, including custodian, counselor, teacher, campus minister, coach, and 504 coordinator. Joe uses his varied school experience to help transform schools into 21st-century student-centered learning facilities.
Joe began his career at an all-boys high school in New York. He moved to California, where he continued his teaching and counseling career, working with inner-city students. He became principal of San Ramon Valley High School in 2004. As principal, Joe worked with his staff as a professional learning community for eight years. Under his leadership, this school was consistently named a top-performing school by US News and World Report; a California Distinguished School in 2006, 2009, and 2012; and in 2012 was ranked 88th of 2,200 schools in California for its academic program and student engagement. In 2012, Joe moved into alternative education and used the tenets of the PLC process to increase his school’s graduation rate from 72 percent to 89 percent, with a 45-point API increase.
Joe strives to engage school and community stakeholders in developing clear and shared beliefs in a highly collaborative, student-centered culture. He uses his passion for PLCs to discover creative ways to assist schools and organizations in meeting their goals. Joe uses the transformational power of PLCs to bring his presentations to life. Joe also has many years of experience helping students reduce stress and foster resiliency.
He received an undergraduate degree in philosophy, psychology, and theology from Saint Mary’s College of California and an MA in counseling from the same institution. He holds a pupil personnel services credential and an administrative services credential. Joe is also a certified educational coach and a licensed marriage and family therapist.
