Matthew Treadway

Matthew Treadway, EdD, is the former principal of Freedom Elementary School in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, where he led his staff in developing a collaborative culture centered on the three big ideas of a professional learning community (PLC).

Prior to serving as principal, Matthew also served as an assistant principal and special education teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels. He is passionate about equity, data-driven practices, and schoolwide systems.

In spring 2020, Freedom Elementary achieved status as a Model PLC at Work® school—a first for the district and only the second elementary school in the state to earn such a distinction. A schoolwide focus on collaboration, the four critical questions of a PLC, and systems designed to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum have helped guide Freedom toward sustained high academic achievement.

Matthew has worked extensively with the Kentucky Center for Mathematics, which selected Freedom Elementary to be the host school for educators across the state to visit and collaborate. Matthew was also selected by the Kentucky Department of Education to serve on the Early Childhood Learning Roundtable, where he provided a voice for the needs of schools across the state.

Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Western Kentucky University, a master’s degree in learning and behavior disorders from Campbellsville University, an educational specialist degree in instructional leadership, superintendent certification, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.
