Rachel Hankerson

Rachel Hankerson is currently the principal of Yulupa Elementary School (transitional kindergarten through third grade) and Strawberry Elementary School (fourth and fifth grades). Prior to becoming a principal, Rachel was a special education teacher and then moved to the district office, where she served as a program specialist in the special education department. Rachel has emphasized the importance of working as a team to ensure continuous improvement through professional learning communities (PLC).

Rachel previously led Marguerite Hahn Elementary School to gain recognition as a Model PLC at Work® school in the winter of 2023, after the school successfully changed their practices in order to support learning for all students. As a leader, Rachel is able to break down large concepts into manageable chunks, ensuring that her staff feels confident.

Rachel received an education specialist teaching credential, administrative credential, and master’s degree in educational leadership from Sonoma State University. She has a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from San Francisco State University.
