Tom Dodd

Tom Dodd, PhD, is a passionate, high-energy speaker and leader with over 30 years of experience in public education and higher education combined. As a middle school/junior high and high school principal in Colorado, he developed professional learning communities (PLCs), which supported response to intervention (RTI) and multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), along with a two-way dual language immersion program. He served as president of the Colorado Association of School Executives and as an International Baccalaureate® educator network consultant, site visitor, and workshop leader.

The middle school where Dr. Dodd served was recognized as a Colorado Association of Middle Level Education/National Forum School to Watch, National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Breakthrough School, and US Department of Education Green Ribbon School. He was honored by his peers as Colorado principal of the year in 2016, as national principal of the year in 2017, and as Colorado Society of Health and Physical Educators administrator of the year in 2018.

Along with having been featured in Building Ranks K–12: A Comprehensive Framework for Effective School Leaders, his work has been published in Principal Leadership and posted in the NASSP’s School of Thought Expert of the Week blogs.

Dr. Dodd holds a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education from Susquehanna University, two master’s degrees in secondary education/social studies and in health, physical education and recreation from Adams State University, a principal license from Colorado State University, and a doctorate and superintendent license from Penn State University.
