Singletons in a PLC: Navigating On-Ramps to Meaningful Collaboration

Charleston, South Carolina | October 14–15, 2024
$769.00

It has been said that isolation is the enemy of improvement, and yet singleton teachers are too often left alone. Singleton teachers are the only ones at a school who teach a specific course or subject—like a music or art teacher or the only physics teacher—and these teachers often ask how they can effectively participate on a collaborative team at a PLC school (e.g., teachers who teach the same course or subject). Additionally, leaders frequently ask what they should be doing to guide and support these outstanding educators.

This highly interactive two-day workshop lays out a framework for small schools and schools with singleton teachers to collaborate meaningfully to help all students learn skills that really matter. Participants, both teachers and leaders, will be provided clear direction and experience different on-ramps that help singletons engage in powerful and meaningful collaboration. Participants will receive tools and templates they can immediately utilize.

  • Understand a learning-focused mindset.
  • Create a concrete and doable plan for meaningful collaboration by examining the Singleton On-Ramps.
  • Examine skills students need to succeed in the world today that transcend any single content area.
  • Develop a means for monitoring progress and gathering data.
  • Discover how to use data to make appropriate and doable intervention decisions.
  • Develop actionable next steps.

Collaboration among teachers is key for school improvement and student success. Most teachers will collaborate in grade-level or course-alike teams in a PLC, but what about singletons—those teachers who do not have grade-level or course-alike peers? In this resource, singleton teachers will find creative entry points to form meaningful collaborative teams.
