Brooks Baca

Brooks Baca is the principal of Bowman Middle School in Plano, Texas, where he has spent the last five years working with his staff to build a collaborative culture, collective responsibility, and shared leadership practices that lead to improved student outcomes through the PLC process. Previously, he was a middle school social studies teacher and coach before moving into the assistant principal role at the high school and middle school levels.

In the fall of 2021, Bowman Middle School achieved Model PLC at Work® status, becoming just the 16th middle school in the state of Texas to earn such a distinction. A sustained schoolwide focus on collaboration framed by the three big ideas of a PLC and focused on the four essential questions of a PLC have helped guide Bowman toward continued student growth and high academic achievement.

Brooks has worked at Title I schools for the majority of his career and is passionate about creating a culture of high expectations for all students through data-driven practices, implementing strategies to close the achievement gap for English learners, and developing processes for shared leadership that allow collaborative teams to thrive.

Brooks earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas and his master’s degree from Lamar University.
