Dan Phelps

Dan Phelps is a superintendent in northern Illinois, for the Rockton School District. With experience as a K–12 physical education specialist, grant coordinator, and building and district administrator, he’s a strong advocate for adult and children’s health and wellness as a foundation for schooling and academics. When he served as a health and physical education teacher, he taught personal training along with strength and conditioning. He was also a principal, assistant principal, and federal grant coordinator.

Dan’s experience in education granted him the opportunity to partner with schools and districts to focus on adult and children’s health and wellness. He has played a crucial role in moving these districts forward with health and wellness as a central point of the educational process. In his current role as superintendent, he partners in implementing the PLC at Work® process, the RTI at Work™ process, and is establishing a central educator wellness framework for his building.

Dan holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education teacher education and a master’s in exercise physiology from Illinois State University. He also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University. Currently, he is completing his doctoral research at Northern Illinois University toward his EdD in educational leadership and policy studies.
