David Pillar

David Pillar, EdD, a former Model PLC at Work® middle school principal, is assistant director at Hoosier Hills Career Center with the Monroe County Community School Corporation in Bloomington, Indiana. Hoosier Hills Career Center is a CTE school serving students from nine local high schools and six school districts in south central Indiana in a wide variety of career paths.

In Dr. Pillar’s 20+ years as an educator, he has served as an award-winning middle school principal, school safety coordinator, assistant principal, athletic director, high school social studies teacher, and basketball coach. Dr. Pillar also served as an adjunct instructor in social studies curriculum and instruction at the Indiana University Bloomington School of Education for 14 years.

Beginning under Dr. Pillar’s leadership, Jackson Creek has operated as a professional learning community (PLC) since the 2010–2011 school year and has been recognized as a Model PLC at Work school. In 2014, Dr. Pillar was named the Indiana District 9 Middle School Principal of the Year.

He has presented regularly at the Indiana Association of School Principals Conference, the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy, and the Indiana School Resource Officers Association Conference. Dr. Pillar has a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies education from Indiana University Bloomington, a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, and both an educational specialist degree and a doctorate in education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
