This intensive 2-day workshop (12 hours total) will guide school leaders, instructional coaches, and educators through the essential components of implementing a research-aligned, system-level Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to drive substantial reading improvement in their elementary and middle schools. Grounded in the science of reading and system-level change, participants will learn how to make data-driven decisions and build collaborative teams that sustain improvement over time.

This workshop provides actionable tools, strategies, and protocols to improve reading outcomes for all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Participants will engage with content organized to build foundational knowledge of reading science, engineer robust systems of support, and enable school leaders to implement improvements across all MTSS tiers.

By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with an actionable plan for strengthening their school’s reading MTSS framework through a system-wide lens.

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the science of reading and its implications for using MTSS for effective reading instruction and assessment.
  • Identify critical components and processes for delivering effective, fully guided reading instruction aligned with research.
  • Analyze various types of assessment data and map assessments within their MTSS framework to guide instruction and intervention decisions.
  • Describe foundational MTSS system levers for change and team functions critical for sustainable reading improvement at the school level.
  • Facilitate collaborative team processes using data protocols to identify reading performance gaps and plan system-level improvements.
  • Apply structured protocols and data-driven strategies to improve Tier 1 classroom instruction and Tier 2/3 interventions.
  • Develop actionable next steps and intensification strategies for students requiring additional support within the MTSS framework.
