Matt Rhoads, EdD, is a dynamic educational leader, innovator, and author specializing in the intersection of research-based instructional strategies, educational technology, and artificial intelligence (AI). As an instructional and EdTech leader, he currently oversees professional development, coaching, operations related to technology integration and instruction, and school improvement. His work focuses on incorporating the science of learning, AI and EdTech, and data-driven decision-making to support schools drive student achievement and improvement.
Dr. Rhoads is a recognized expert in modernizing classroom instruction through AI and EdTech integration in traditional classrooms as well as in blended and online learning settings. He actively consults with districts, universities, and EdTech companies on aligning AI tools with evidence based instruction rooted in cognitive science to amplify student learning. His leadership extends to accreditation and accountability. He serves as a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) chair and committee member, guiding schools in the US and internationally (through Array Global) through comprehensive self-studies to align programs with rigorous standards for continuous improvement.
With a background as a special education teacher and co-teacher in secondary settings, Dr. Rhoads possesses deep expertise in inclusive practices. He continues to shape the future of the profession as a lecturer at San Diego State University supporting pre-service bilingual teacher candidates and as a doctoral chair at Concordia University, Irvine, where he supervises research on instruction, special education, AI, and EdTech integration.
Dr. Rhoads is the author of 10 impactful books, including the Solution Tree title Co-Teaching Evolved: Partnership Strategies for an Equitable, Inclusive, and Tech-Powered Classroom. His latest books include Crush it from the Start, 25 Tips for Instructional Coaches and Leaders, Crush It From the Start: 50 Tips for New Teachers, Instruction Without Boundaries: Enhance Your Teaching Strategies With Technology Tools in Any Setting, the Amplify Learning: A Global Collaborative series, and Navigating the Toggled Term: A Guide for K–12 Classroom and School Leaders. Dr. Rhoads earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, teaching credentials in single-subject English, social science, and mild/moderate special education. He also earned a master’s degree in teaching from Point Loma Nazarene University. He holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Concordia University, Irvine
