Barbara Bushnell is a seasoned staff developer and curriculum specialist with nine years of experience serving the Francis Howell School District in St. Charles, Missouri. Under her leadership, a professional learning community has flourished, and the district has been honored with Missouri’s highest rating for academic achievement—Distinction in Performance—three times. In addition, Francis Howell High School and Francis Howell Middle School have been recognized among the top 10 most improved schools in Missouri, and Francis Howell Middle School was listed among the top 10 in the state for mathematics. Barbara was instrumental in adding math instructional specialists to Francis Howell’s staff.

The focus of Barbara’s work for nearly a decade has been to support teachers and administrators with a viable curriculum, research-based, proven instructional practices, and effective common and formative assessment strategies. A classroom teacher for 19 years, Barbara shares her acclaimed strategies with other educators as a presenter, workshop leader, and independent consultant.

As a teacher, Barbara was honored as Teacher of the Year during her service at Central Elementary School. She received the Howell of Fame Award for her districtwide achievements, and the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recognized her outstanding service as evidenced in the substantial progress of Francis Howell schools.

Barbara earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Lindenwood College and a master’s degree in education from Maryville University. She completed her principal certification at Lindenwood University.
