Brian Dean

Brian Dean, a former teacher, is senior instructional specialist in secondary mathematics for the District School Board of Pasco County, Florida, where he leads mathematics teaching and learning for the 50th-largest school district in the United States. He focuses on secondary mathematics and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Brian taught at the middle and high school levels for seven years and was department chair for six years.

Brian was named Teacher of the Year while at Paul R. Smith Middle School, was recognized as Pasco County Middle School Math Teacher of Year, and was named K–12 Mathematics Educator of the Year by the Pasco Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

He is a department editor for Mathematics Teacher, a journal of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He is a member of the Pasco Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and NCTM.

Brian earned a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in business administration and a master’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Miami University, Ohio.
