ClauDean ChiNaka Kizart, EdD, serves as the institutional director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at Tidewater Community College in Virginia. A native of Chicago, Dr. Kizart’s lived experiences, research, and professional and business acumen, along with her doctoral research, have positioned her as a much sought after educational leader. She is a DEI-certified specialist and educator with 25 years of experience in K–12 education and higher. She has worked as a special education teacher, literacy coach, middle school teacher, and statewide equity trainer to disaggregate data and provide strategies to improve the educational experiences of all students. Her commitment to education is rooted in the belief that education is a pathway to a better life and that where there is unity, there is power.

Dr. Kizart is a member of several state and national organizations, including the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC), Virginia Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, and Virginia Organization for Inclusive Concepts and Equitable Solutions (VOICES). She was awarded the Outstanding Faculty and Service Award at St. Louis Community College, as well as the Betts Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Kizart regularly facilitates professional development focused on improving human interactions in an increasingly diverse world. She has presented at local and international conferences such as Write to Learn, Learning Forward, and GlobalMindED. She has worked with a diverse population of educators, including teachers, instructional coaches, superintendents, and other school administrators, to make data-based decisions about helping schools be more equitable and inclusive for all learners.

Dr. Kizart is an Iyalorisha—an initiated priestess/minister in an African-Caribbean tradition. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Harris-Stowe State University, lifetime reading certification from Fontbonne University, master’s degree in educational administration from Saint Louis University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Lindenwood University.
