Jennifer Burris has worked in education for over 20 years. She is currently the principal of Benton Intermediate School in Louisiana and works with educators to implement proven practices to ensure high levels of student learning. Her experience with leading campuses through the professional learning community (PLC) journey, resulting in exceptional student growth, fuels her energy and passion for providing educators with practical tools and solutions to tackle their work. Her specialty areas include PLCs, response to intervention (RTI), team collaboration, scheduling, and assessments.
As assistant principal of Benton Middle School, Jennifer played an instrumental role in transforming the school culture and designing efficient systems and structures centered around the PLC process, ultimately earning the school the distinction of being the first Model PLC at Work® school in the state of Louisiana. She continues to guide her team through the PLC journey and has implemented a highly effective multitiered system of supports. Her campuses have been recognized at the district and state levels for high student performance and exceptional student growth.
Jennifer earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport prior to spending 13 years as an award-winning classroom teacher in both elementary and middle school grade bands. She later earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and has served in various capacities, including instructional coach for the district, assistant principal, and principal.
