John Darnell is the principal at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Throughout his career, he worked across the state of Kentucky in both urban and rural schools as a social studies teacher and principal. During his time as an administrator, John worked diligently with three different schools to implement or refine schoolwide interventions to ensure high levels of learning for all students. Schools he worked at in Kentucky were previously named distinguished schools and schools of distinction by the Kentucky Department of Education.
Curriculum, grading, feedback, and sound assessment practices are areas John is passionate about exploring with educators. He has supported teachers and schools across all grade levels in the area of assessment.
John participated in the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy and is also affiliated with the Kentucky Center for School Safety and the Kentucky Association of School Councils.
John holds valid Kentucky certificates as a social studies teacher, school principal, and superintendent. He earned his bachelor’s in history from Transylvania University and has master's degrees in instructional leadership and teaching.
