Kelly U. Pew

Kelly U. Pew, PhD, began her career as a high school English teacher. She then transitioned into school leadership and went on to serve as a middle and high school assistant principal and principal. In addition, she served as assistant superintendent of administration, human resources, and instruction before becoming superintendent of two 16,000-student school districts in South Carolina. As superintendent in Rock Hill, Dr. Pew implemented professional learning communities in each of her schools.

Dr. Pew has also served as an instructor at the graduate level. She developed and taught an assessment course for teachers in a master of education program, and she is currently an instructor in the doctoral programs at Clemson University and Southern Wesleyan University. Dr. Pew teaches a variety of courses in subjects including instructional leadership, assessment, finance, and research. She also serves on doctoral candidates’ dissertation committees in the areas of curriculum and instruction. Dr. Pew currently serves as an instructor and mentor for the South Carolina Association of School Administrators’ Center for Executive Education Leadership (CEEL) program, where she conducts a variety of leadership workshops for practicing school and district administrators. She is currently facilitating the rewriting of South Carolina’s math standards with the state’s department of education.

Dr. Pew is a 1991 graduate of Clemson University, with a degree in secondary education/English. She completed a master’s degree at Furman University in 1997 and earned her doctorate in educational leadership at Clemson University in 2002.
