Lori Cooper

Lori Cooper, PhD, serves as the assistant superintendent of student achievement in the Fountain–Fort Carson School District. She has served in public education for 30 years: 10 years in her current role, 13 years as a middle school principal, and 7 years as a high school science teacher. Her leadership has focused on a relentless mission to build student-centered instruction and assessment systems for both schools and districts.

Most recently, Dr. Cooper has developed methods to build accountability systems for schools and districts focused on using local data and feedback. The work has gained the attention of both state and national organizations, including the Aurora Institute and the Colorado Education Initiative. Because of the results and outcomes achieved, grant funding for the initiative was extended by the Colorado Department of Education in 2022.

In 2010, Dr. Cooper was named Colorado Secondary Principal of the Year for her leadership in building multitiered systems of supports in her middle school. The work resulted in the publication of several journal articles and a book. She is also the 2022–2023 president of the Colorado Association of School Executives and continues to serve on several state legislative and accountability committees.

Dr. Cooper’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Northern Colorado, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a doctorate in K–12 leadership from Walden University.
