Melissa Dickson is an author and educational consultant with more than 20 years of experience. She provides professional development for literacy, instruction, differentiation, and formative assessment to elementary, middle, and high school educators.
She has worked extensively with schools in Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Texas, conducting formative assessment walkthroughs and helping administrators and leadership teams set schoolwide goals for improvement. Recently, she helped implement the Literacy and Learning Center model in New Mexico, as well as implement balanced literacy in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Melissa has provided support to both low- and high-performing schools, using state, district, school, and individual teacher data to determine each school’s needs. In addition, Melissa has helped create professional libraries and guided reading libraries to better support both teachers and students.
Previously, she served as a classroom teacher and literacy coach for Conroe Independent School District in Texas, where she designed and provided staff development and worked with principals in her assigned schools to reach their campus improvement goals.
She earned a BA in elementary education and an MA in reading from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
