Sam Futrell teaches middle school social studies at St. Michael’s Episcopal School in Richmond, Virginia. With a master’s degree in history and over a decade of experience as a social studies educator, Sam has made significant contributions to the field through curriculum development, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and professional development for educators.
Sam also serves as the president of the Virginia Council for the Social Studies, the state affiliate of the National Council for the Social Studies. In this role, she and her team curate high-quality professional development opportunities for Virginia’s social studies educators. She has received several awards for her leadership in the Virginia educational community and her dedication to civil rights advocacy.
