Samuel Ritchie

Samuel Ritchie is a consultant with 35 years of experience as a practitioner. For most of those years, he was the director of technology at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Illinois, one of the most recognized schools in America and a model for the Professional Learning Communities at Work™ approach to school improvement. An active advocate for integrating technology at the building, district, regional, and state levels of education, Samuel has been key in facilitating dialogue among teachers, administrators, and legislators. He is one of the founders of the Lake County Computer Consortium, and at the state level, a founding member and president of Illinois Computing Educators.

Samuel believes that education should prepare students for living in a technological, information-based global society. This belief served as the foundation for his leadership at Stevenson, where he grew a lab of four computers into a network of more than 2,000 machines. Samuel was responsible for integrating technology into all departments and aspects of the curriculum. He also played a key role in launching Stevenson’s sophisticated curriculum monitoring process, which was recognized by the National Center for Effective Schools for being “on the cutting edge” of evaluation practices. For his efforts, Samuel received the Electronic Learning Technology Teacher of the Year Award and the Award of Excellence for administrators from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Samuel has written numerous articles, coauthored two books, and with the Milken Exchange on Education Technology, developed the Professional Competency Continuum: Professional Skills for the Digital Age Classroom.
