Yetunde Reeves

Yetunde Reeves, EdD, is principal of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Baltimore. A transformational school leader since 2005, she was previously principal of Ballou High School in Washington, DC. Prior to joining DC Public Schools, Dr. Reeves was the executive director of secondary education for the Hayward Unified School District and supervised principals for two years. She has also served as a principal of a middle school and charter high school.

Among Dr. Reeves’ greatest accomplishments is co-designing and leading EXCEL High School in Oakland, California, where she was the founding principal. Her expertise in creating a college-going culture is reflected in the accomplishments of Ballou High School’s class of 2018: 100 percent of the students were accepted to two- or four-year colleges.

Dr. Reeves has served in various capacities in urban schools, including as a social studies teacher and assistant principal. She is committed to social justice education, and her passion is working with students of color and supporting first-generation college students. Dr. Reeves leads a team of educators, in collaboration with partners, who believe that their students will change the narrative about students of color. They are committed to transforming the educational experience of their students and ultimately improving their community.

Dr. Reeves received National Board Certification in social studies. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans, a master’s degree in education from UCLA, and a master’s degree and doctorate in leadership from Mills College.
