Bloomington, IN—The National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) has named Mona Toncheff, a Solution Tree expert and author, as their president-elect. Toncheff’s four-year term will begin at the close of NCSM’s Annual Conference on April 25, 2018. She will serve a one-year term as president-elect, a two-year term as president and a one-year term as past president.

“I am honored and excited to represent NCSM as president-elect,” said Toncheff. “NCSM is a special organization, and I am blessed to have grown as a mathematics leader in such a strong network over the past 13 years.”

Toncheff is currently a project manager for the Arizona Mathematics Partnership—a National Science Foundation–funded grant. In her role, she focuses on building middle school mathematics teacher content knowledge and serves as a supervisor teacher for the University of Arizona Teach Program. Previously, she worked as both a mathematics teacher and a mathematics content specialist for the Phoenix Union High School District in Arizona for more than 20 years.

In 2009, she was named the Phoenix Union High School District Teacher of the Year, and in 2014, she received the Copper Apple Award for leadership in mathematics from the Arizona Association of Teachers of Mathematics.

She recently co-authored the Every Student Can Learn Mathematics series, which will be published by Solution Tree in 2018. The series includes four titles: “Mathematics Assessment and Intervention in a PLC at Work™,” “Mathematics Instruction and Tasks in a PLC at Work™,” “Mathematics Homework and Grading in a PLC at Work™” and “Mathematics Coaching and Collaboration in a PLC at Work™.”

In her work as a consultant, Toncheff has helped educators around the globe enhance their mathematics practices, and she is eager to continue this work as NCSM’s president. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve mathematics teachers and leaders across the world,” explained Toncheff. “I am looking forward to working with the NCSM board and mathematics leaders as we move forward to ensure rich and meaningful mathematics instruction and learning for each and every learner.”
