New Book Shares Step-by-Step Instructional Plan for Effective Classroom Read Alouds

Bloomington, Ind. (August 28, 2023)—Solution Tree is pleased to announce the release of Read Alouds for All Learners: A Comprehensive Plan for Every Subject, Every Day, Grades PreK–8 by Molly Ness. Written with teachers, curriculum designers, and literacy coaches in mind, the book explores why read alouds are so vital to student learning and offers practical guidance for implementing them in the classroom.

Ness demonstrates that the read aloud has slowly been falling out of practice in homes and schools alike, and this has had sobering consequences on children’s vocabulary acquisition and retention, verbal reasoning and syntactical understanding, and social and emotional capacity. She provides teachers with practical tools and lessons that have proven successful in her own classrooms to guide them in creating an effective read aloud routine. Supported by current research and personal experiences, Read Alouds for All Learners is at once a compelling case for the reintegration of the read aloud in schools and a step-by-step resource for preK–8 educators.

Crystal Barreto, academic intervention services coordinator with the community superintendent’s office in the New York City Department of Education writes that Read Alouds for All Learners is “one of the best books I have read on how to develop a well-constructed read aloud. As a district instructional coach who only uses practical, research-based methods, I am eager to use this invaluable resource and thrilled to add it to my professional reading collection.”
