Rita Marler, EdD, is former chief superintendent of the Battle River School Division, in Camrose, Alberta, Canada, where she focused on instructional leadership development of school and system leaders. She has been an educator since 1987, teaching in a variety of schools and courses from grades 1 to 12. Before becoming district superintendent, Dr. Marler was also an assistant principal, principal, and district administrator. She has provided workshops and personalized support for school leaders in many different settings.
Dr. Marler was an education partner with Education Research Development and Innovation, and she was named as one of the University of Alberta Augustana Faculty Distinguished Alumni in 2024 for her contributions to public education in Alberta. She also served for four years as director and first vice president of the College of Alberta School Superintendents. Dr. Marler’s work has focused on developing leaders to ensure that teachers and schools are improving to help students succeed. She has developed courses about leading learning and instructional leadership. In addition, Dr. Marler has supported groups of school leaders and individuals in their professional growth as instructional leaders in their schools.
Dr. Marler received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta, a master’s degree in education from San Diego State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Calgary.
