Jalal Masri

Jalal Masri is the professional learning community (PLC) coach at Bernice Ayer Middle School in San Clemente, California. In this role, he leads sitewide professional learning, supports teacher team collaboration, and oversees the school’s intervention system. He is passionate about helping teams design high-quality common formative assessments and use them to drive the continual improvement of the school. Previously, Jalal worked as a high school and middle school history teacher, most recently in a Spanish dual immersion program.
Jalal was part of the guiding coalition of teachers that transformed Bernice Ayer Middle School into a Model PLC at Work® school in 2021 and then, as PLC coach, helped retain that status in 2024. During this time, Bernice Ayer Middle School was twice designated a California Distinguished School and California School to Watch. Additional honors include the Golden Bell Awards for an Outstanding Program - English Learner & Biliteracy, the California Pivotal Practice Award, and the Platinum PBIS Implementation Award. Most importantly, as a thriving professional learning community, Bernice Ayer Middle School has demonstrated quantifiable growth in learning for the students it serves.
Jalal attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where he did his graduate and undergraduate work. As an undergraduate, Jalal graduated cum laude with a double major in history and Spanish. He is a Phi Beta Kappa member and made the Dean’s Honors List every quarter. His Spanish degree came with a focus on literature, composition and culture. Additional honors include membership in the Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society and Sigma Delta Pi National Hispanic Honors Society. He also earned his secondary teaching credential at UCI in social science with a supplementary in Spanish.
