Christine Johnson

Christine Johnson is the principal of Meadow Lane Elementary school in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. With 20 years of experience in public schools, she has served as an elementary teacher, special education teacher, and principal in two different school settings. Leading with purpose, she successfully improved high-poverty schools by increasing the staff’s capacity to develop collaborative cultures through the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work® process.

During her time as principal of Sterling Elementary, she led the staff to develop a learning-for-all culture and embrace the three big ideas and four pillars of a PLC. This work ultimately led to increased student academic growth and achievement, as well as being recognized as a Model PLC at Work school in 2017.

To further address inequities within the schools she led, Dr. Johnson established guiding coalitions as a way to develop leadership and champion the vision. One critical aspect that impacted students’ achievement was the laser-like focus to provide each student the time and support they needed to realize success.

Dr. Johnson is passionate about developing a culture of high expectations for both students and adults. She is equally adamant about celebrating the impact of educators by viewing each opportunity through an optimistic lens.

Dr. Johnson received her doctorate from the University of Missouri in educational leadership policy and analysis while centering her research on the impact of collective efficacy on student achievement. Previously, she completed graduate-level coursework at the University of Central Missouri in school administration and curriculum, and earned her undergraduate degree from Avila University in elementary and special education certification. She continues to participate in advisory committees for local university education programs to advocate for courses aimed at recruiting and retaining teachers.
