Jeff Washington

Dr. Jeff Washington is the principal of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® elementary school in Georgia. With a nearly 20-year career spanning various educational fields, his roles as culture creator, collaborator, mentor, instructor, and facilitator have led to successful outcomes for schools and stakeholders.

Beginning as an advanced placement (AP) science teacher, his leadership style was guided by a deep sense of empathy and genuine desire to see others succeed. He achieved recognition as teacher of the year and as a districtwide top 10 finalist. He also excelled as an athletic coach, leading his school to multiple championships. Transitioning to the role of assistant principal, he was introduced to the PLC process, converging his educational perspective with the implementation of PLC strategies and guidance-tool resources. Later, as principal, he not only developed a more entrenched PLC perspective, but he also inspired his staff to foster a collaborative approach, thereby developing PLC leaders—and he solidified his belief in the importance of aligning mission, vision, values, and goals. This experience reinforced his dedication to PLC’s core ideas: focus on learning, foster a collaborative culture, and embrace collective responsibility for results.

Dr. Washington holds a doctorate in teaching leadership from Walden University, a master’s degree in school counseling from Liberty University, and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Fort Valley State University. He is a graduate of several leadership programs including the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders Aspiring Principals Academy and the Georgia School Superintendents Association’s District Office Professional Development Program. Dr. Washington’s involvement extends to serving as vice president of District 11’s Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals and as a member of the National Association of Elementary School Principals. His dedication to educational leadership and collaboration has resulted in achieving ongoing success within his school community.
