Kristyn Klei Borrero

Kristyn Klei Borrero, EdD, is an accomplished educational leader and coach who strives to make a profound difference in the professional lives of educators. She has committed herself to improving the education of students in traditionally disenfranchised schools and has served as a classroom teacher, principal, and area superintendent.

She spent more than a decade leading turnaround initiatives for underperforming schools in Oakland and East Palo Alto, California. Dr. Klei Borrero propelled schools to significantly exceed all state academic benchmarks, organizational fundraising and financial goals, teacher retention rates, and family and student satisfaction ratings.

Along with her cofounder, Lee Canter, Dr. Klei Borrero led the research and development of No-Nonsense Nurturer®, one of the most innovative, transformative professional development models in education today, born out of her observation of high-performing teachers. She codified the findings to support all educators to build inclusive, joy-filled classrooms.

Dr. Klei Borrero has served as an adjunct professor in educational leadership and teacher education at San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco and guest lecturer at Stanford University on school reform, educating immigrant students and setting high academic standards in historically marginalized communities. She was also a national director for resources for Indispensable Schools and Educators and serves as the program committee chairperson for the board of Reading Partners.

Dr. Klei Borrero earned a bachelor’s degree at Miami University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Xavier University, and a doctorate in education leadership from the University of California, Berkeley.
