Sal Herrera

Sal Herrera has more than 29 years of experience in education. He has been a middle school teacher, middle school administrator, and high school/continuation school principal. The majority of Sal’s leadership experience has been at a Title I School. He is passionate about building a school culture that includes systems and structures that lead to learning and growth for all students. Fully committed to the professional learning community (PLC) process, he believes it can be accomplished in all schools.

Sal is the principal at Robertson Continuation High School in Fremont, California, where he has committed to his work over the past 16 years. Under his leadership as principal, the school has transformed from an underperforming and low-attendance school to one that provides A-G approved courses, is ACS WASC accredited, and is recognized as a California Model Continuation High School since 2013. Robertson High School has also been recognized as a Solution Tree Model PLC at Work® school since 2018—it’s the only continuation high school in the United States to earn such a distinction.

Sal was named Administrator of the Year in 2009 by the Association of California School Administrators Region 6. Ann Lord Recipient, Fremont Management Association in 2010 and once again in 2015. In 2019, he was recognized by the Fremont PTA as the Outstanding Administrator of the Year.

Sal earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from California State University, San Bernardino, and his master’s degree in educational leadership from National University.
