Beyond the Basics: Deeper Teaching and Learning With Depth of Knowledge

What does learning look, sound, and feel like? How could you ensure your students are learning at the level demanded by academic standards, activities, and assessment items? How could you establish and evaluate standards-aligned learning objectives and outcomes that meet students’ diverse needs?
Discover how to use Depth of Knowledge (DOK) to enhance teacher clarity around standards and ensure student understanding of learning objectives and outcomes. Examine what distinguishes DOK as a concept, framework, and language for teaching and learning. Explore how to use the DOK levels to develop and deliver teaching and learning experiences that are standards driven and student supportive. Leave with actionable and applicable strategies that will engage and encourage students to demonstrate and discuss their learning at different and deeper levels.
- Understand how DOK clarifies the cognitive demand of learning expectations and experiences established and evaluated by academic standards, activities, and assessment items.
- Deconstruct standards to determine what exactly and how deeply students must understand and use their learning to demonstrate proficiency in a specific subject or perform successfully.
- Use the language of DOK to specify the depth and extent students must comprehend and communicate their learning to demonstrate proficiency and perform successfully.
- Analyze how the DOK levels establish and evaluate four different and deeper ways students can demonstrate and discuss their learning.
- Pose good questions that will engage and encourage students to demonstrate and discuss their learning at different and deeper DOK levels.
- Teach and tier learning based on the DOK Level of the standards and the diverse needs of the students.

In order to receive the discounted hotel room rate, please mention Solution Tree. After the deadline listed below, rates will be determined by the hotel. While discounted rooms in our hotel room block may be sold out, the primary hotel may still have rooms available at their standard rates. Please inquire directly with the hotel.
Workshops held at the Arkansas Training Center, located in downtown Little Rock in the Simmons Tower, do not include a hotel room block. For your convenience, we provide a list of nearby hotels to assist with travel planning. Attendees may book accommodations directly through the hotel’s website or by calling the hotel. The DoubleTree offers shuttle service to our Training Center; to arrange, notify the Front Desk of your departure and pick up times. The AC Hotel is only a five minute walk to our Center. You are not required to stay at any of the suggested hotels.
Parking information: If driving in and parking for the workshop in the Training Center, please park in the designated deck located at 607 S Spring St Little Rock AR 72201. This deck is connected to the Simmons Tower via skywalk. Solution Tree will validate parking, so be sure to bring your parking stub with you to the workshop. Parking in a reserved space incurs a violation fine of $60, at owner's expense.
